Support South Shore Charter Educational Foundation
Annual and Capital Giving
What is the difference and why does South Shore Charter Public School need both?
Annual Giving:
Like most non-profits, SSCEF has an Annual Fund to make up the difference between what it costs to run the charter school and tuition revenue. Annual Fund gifts are given and used within the current school year in support of ongoing operating needs. The Annual Fund helps SSCEF give the school necessary funds to provide an outstanding faculty, an attractive plant, and a superior program. Without it, SSCPS would have to cut back on programs. Parents, alumni, faculty, grandparents, parents of alumni, and friends contribute Annual Fund gifts ranging from $1 to $5,000. This year's Annual Fund goal is $50,000. Donate Now!
Capital Giving:
Capital gifts are given in support of specific, large-scale programs and projects identified by the Board of Trustees in support of the school's Long Range Plan. Typically, these gifts support new buildings, major renovations, and endowment drives. SSCEF is in the middle of a capital campaign, Build for the Future, for the new science lab. Donate Now!
A capital campaign is "above and beyond" annual giving support for the operating budget. While district public schools have their buildings provided by their town, SSCEF must raise its construction dollars in the form of voluntary contributions and by taking out bonds.
Answers to Frequently Asked Questions about SSCEF’s Annual Fund
Why does South Shore Charter Public School have an Annual Fund?
Many people don't realize that state tuition does not cover the entire cost of educating a child. Like almost all non-profits, SSCEF has an Annual Fund to cover the difference between revenue and expenses. Without the Annual Fund, SSCPS would have to cut back on programs. South Shore Charter Educational Foundation is the fundraising arm of the charter school and is a non-profit, 501c3 organization.
Why is my participation important?
SSCPS is a young school, established in 1995. Our constituency is small, particularly when compared to other public schools. Having such a small constituency means everyone's participation has an even great impact on the school. And each and every gift, no matter what size, makes a difference. Participation in the fund drives is as important as the actual value of the gift.
How will my gift make a difference?
Gifts to the Annual Fund benefit SSCPS each day in many ways:
• Library acquisitions
• Technology upgrades
• Field trips
• Guest speakers and performers
• Professional development for faculty
• Music and fine arts supplies
• Community service programs
• Athletic uniforms, transportation, equipment
We work hard to get the maximum value from every dollar we receive - in the classrooms across all grades and levels of our school.
How much should I give?
Given the importance of the Annual Fund to the quality and excellence of SSCPS, we ask that you give as generously as you can. The school community is extremely grateful to everyone who contributes, as each gift is critical to the success of the Annual Fund. We invite you to join The Charter Society, which recognizes donors at various levels. (Levels are listed below) Your gift will allow us to provide the finest education for all our students - and it will also inspire others to contribute. In addition, our eligibility for grants and matching funds is based, in part, on the level of donor participation of our community.
Is my gift tax-deductible?
All donations to South Shore Charter Educational Foundation are fully tax-deductible provided you do not receive any goods or services in return. Receipts are issued for all gifts. SSCEF accepts gifts of cash, stocks, or securities, and bequests. It is helpful to know that in a highly appreciated market, a charitable stock gift can offer additional tax advantages.
Can I pledge now and pay later?
The school's fiscal year runs from July 1st to June 30th. Pledges can be paid at any time and may be paid in installments.
